The University of Abuja has expelled 28 students for what it described as serious violations of institutional regulations, including involvement in cult-related activities, drug possession, and examination malpractice.
Disciplinary Action Targets Campus Misconduct
University authorities said the decision followed recommendations from the institutionโs disciplinary committee after investigations found the affected students culpable of various offences considered detrimental to campus safety and academic integrity.
In an official statement, the management emphasized that the expulsions form part of broader efforts to reinforce discipline and maintain a secure learning environment across the university community.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Reaffirmed
The institution reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and drug-related offences, warning that any student found engaging in activities that threaten lives, property, or academic standards will face decisive sanctions.
University officials stressed that disciplinary measures are intended not only as punishment but also as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar misconduct.
Growing Concern Over Campus Security
Education and security analysts note that Nigerian universities have, in recent years, intensified crackdowns on cultism and drug abuse amid concerns about their impact on student welfare and institutional reputation.
The latest action by the University of Abuja aligns with ongoing sector-wide efforts to strengthen campus governance, promote ethical conduct, and safeguard academic credibility.
The expelled students have reportedly been formally notified in line with university procedures.
