Tinubu to Embark on Historic State Visit to the United Kingdom!
Reported by Mustapha Labake Omowumi | Sele Media Africa Journalist
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu are set to undertake a landmark two‑day state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18 to 19, 2026. The visit officially confirmed by Buckingham Palace marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, highlighting a renewed diplomatic chapter between Abuja and London.
According to the statement released by the Royal Household, President Tinubu has accepted an invitation from His Majesty King Charles III, who together with Queen Camilla will host the Nigerian presidential couple at Windsor Castle.
This historic engagement is expected to reinforce diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, amid growing bilateral cooperation on trade, security, and other strategic areas of mutual interest.
The forthcoming visit also symbolizes a deepening of relations not seen since the last Nigerian state visit to Britain in 1989, when then‑military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Further details on the itinerary and official engagements during the March visit are expected to be announced by both governments in due course.
