Tight Security at EFCC Headquarters as Protesters Gather Ahead of El-Rufai’s Expected Appearance!

Security was significantly reinforced on Monday at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja as a crowd of protesters gathered, anticipating the arrival of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai following an invitation by the anti-graft agency.
Eyewitnesses reported a noticeable deployment of security personnel within and around the EFCC premises, including armed operatives and crowd-control units, as demonstrators assembled to express divergent views over the probe involving the former governor. While some protesters called for transparency and accountability in public office, others urged the commission to ensure due process and avoid what they described as politicisation of anti-corruption investigations.
The EFCC has not publicly detailed the nature of the invitation extended to El-Rufai. However, the development follows heightened public interest in ongoing anti-graft efforts targeting past and present public officials, a key pillar of Nigeria’s accountability discourse. El-Rufai, a prominent political figure and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has remained a subject of national attention since leaving office in May 2023.
