President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered a resolute message to terrorist groups across Nigeria, asserting that despite rising attacks and insurgent desperation, the nation will remain steadfast and ultimately prevail in securing peace and stability. Speaking on Monday, Tinubu emphasized national unity, reinforced security operations, and the government’s ongoing economic recovery efforts.

Addressing an interfaith breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by religious and traditional leaders from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, Tinubu acknowledged the persistent security challenges facing the nation. He noted that terrorists are increasingly desperate due to intensified military and police operations, but affirmed that these attacks would not deter the government’s determination to defeat them.

“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated… But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” Tinubu declared, reiterating the federal government’s firm stance against insurgents and other agents of instability.

Framing the fight against terrorism as a collective national responsibility, Tinubu called for cooperation from all segments of society. He highlighted the crucial role of traditional and religious leaders in fostering peace, guiding moral conduct, and reinforcing national unity as a cornerstone of resilience in the face of violence.

Beyond security, the president highlighted progress in the nation’s economic trajectory, noting that reforms have begun yielding tangible results. He cited measures such as gradual relief for pensioners and stabilizing public finances, which reflect the administration’s commitment to sustainable development despite security challenges.

Tinubu’s remarks come amid ongoing threats from extremist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which continue to perpetrate deadly attacks across Nigeria’s northeastern and central regions. Analysts stress that recent high-casualty incidents have heightened public concern and underscore the urgency of sustained federal security operations.

Security experts argue that while military interventions have disrupted some insurgent networks, lasting peace requires improved intelligence, interagency coordination, and active community engagement to curb recruitment and extremist influence. Civil society groups have also called for strategies that combine security enforcement with social development and cohesion.

The president’s address reinforces that terrorism and banditry, while persistent and violent, will not undermine Nigeria’s institutional strength. The administration has pledged ongoing support for security agencies and local communities to consolidate gains, safeguard citizens, and uphold national stability.
