Somalia’s President: “They tried to kill me six times” — Mohamud speaks out

Mogadishu — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has revealed that militant group Al-Shabaab has made six separate attempts on his life over the years. He made the disclosure following a recent bomb attack on his convoy in Mogadishu on March 18, 2025. [1]

•⁠ ⁠The most recent assassination attempt involved a roadside bomb targeting the presidential convoy near Villa Somalia as the president was heading to the airport to inspect military operations. Somali officials confirmed he escaped the attack unhurt. [2]
