Power Disruption Hits Ibadan Communities After Vehicle Crash Damages High-Tension Pole in Oyo State!

Residents in several communities across Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, are experiencing electricity outages following a vehicular accident that damaged a high-tension electricity pole, disrupting power supply in parts of the city.
The incident, which occurred on a key power distribution line serving multiple neighbourhoods in Ibadan, resulted in the collapse of a high-tension pole after a vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with the infrastructure. The impact severely affected electricity transmission in the area, leading to an immediate power outage across several communities.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) confirmed the disruption in a public update, explaining that the accident caused significant damage to critical power infrastructure along the affected feeder line. According to the company, technical teams were promptly deployed to assess the damage and begin emergency repair work.
“Following a road traffic accident that brought down a high-tension pole, some of our customers are currently experiencing power interruption. Our engineers are working to replace the damaged infrastructure and restore supply as quickly as possible,” the company said in a statement.
IBEDC did not immediately provide an exact timeline for full restoration of electricity but assured customers that repair efforts are ongoing and that safety measures are being implemented to prevent further hazards around the damaged installation.
Power disruptions linked to infrastructure damage from traffic incidents remain a recurring challenge across parts of Nigeria, where electricity distribution networks often run along major roadways. When critical installations such as poles or transformers are damaged, repairs can require complex technical operations, including the replacement of heavy equipment and temporary shutdowns of distribution lines to ensure worker safety.
Local residents in the affected Ibadan communities reported that the outage has disrupted household activities and small businesses that depend heavily on stable electricity supply. Many expressed hope that repairs would be completed quickly to restore normal operations.
Authorities have not reported any casualties linked to the accident as of the time of filing this report. However, officials are urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads to avoid incidents that could damage public infrastructure.
Electricity distribution companies across Nigeria have repeatedly warned that collisions involving power installations not only disrupt services but also pose significant safety risks, including the possibility of electrocution and fire outbreaks.
Repair operations are expected to continue until the damaged high-tension pole is replaced and the distribution network is fully stabilized.
