Plateau Night Attack: Gunmen Kill Nine at Community Relaxation Spot in Barkin Ladi!

At least nine people have been killed after gunmen stormed a relaxation spot in Plateau State’s Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, in the latest incident highlighting persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s North-Central region.
The attack occurred on Sunday evening at a popular gathering spot in Douruwa Babuje community, where residents had assembled before armed assailants opened fire indiscriminately and fled the scene. Two other victims were reportedly left critically injured and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Local sources said the assault triggered panic among residents, many of whom ran for safety as the attackers shot sporadically. Community leaders described the incident as devastating, noting that families and residents have been left in mourning.
Security authorities confirmed that troops responded after receiving distress calls and have since reinforced their presence in the area. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The incident underscores the recurring violence that has affected parts of Plateau State in recent years, with rural communities and civilian gathering points increasingly vulnerable to armed attacks. Analysts warn that sustained security operations and community-based interventions will be required to stem the cycle of violence in the region.
