Four passengers abducted by suspected gunmen along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Oyo State’s Oke‑Ogun region were successfully rescued unharmed following a rapid and coordinated security operation, authorities confirmed Friday.

The kidnappings occurred in the early hours of March 5, 2026, when assailants reportedly blocked a commercial vehicle travelling from Igbeti to Kishi and forced four occupants into nearby bushland.

Responding promptly, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, mobilised officers from the Igbeti and Kishi divisions, supported by tactical units and local security agencies, to conduct a focused bush‑combing operation aimed at locating the victims.

A joint team of Nigeria Police operatives, the Oyo State Amotekun Corps, and Operation Burst engaged the kidnappers through dense forest terrain. Confronted with sustained pressure, the suspects abandoned the captives, enabling security forces to rescue all four passengers without injury.

Collaboration and Community Vigilance Highlighted
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer, commended the seamless collaboration between conventional security forces and regional networks like Amotekun, describing it as key to the operation’s success. Authorities also praised the Oyo State Government for supporting security initiatives that protect lives and property along rural highways increasingly targeted by criminals.

The rescued passengers have been reunited with their families. Meanwhile, security forces continue intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the networks responsible for highway abductions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report credible intelligence to assist ongoing investigations.

The incident highlights persistent security vulnerabilities along rural transport corridors in southwestern Nigeria, where armed groups have frequently targeted travellers, prompting multi‑agency responses to safeguard communities.
