Osun APC Alleges Secret ₦300 Billion Loan Plan; Governor Adeleke Rejects Claim as Political Distraction!

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of secretly planning to secure a ₦300 billion loan for the state—an allegation the governor has strongly denied, describing it as a politically motivated attempt to mislead the public.
In a statement issued by the Osun APC, the opposition party alleged that the Adeleke administration was preparing to obtain the loan without sufficient transparency or consultation with the public. The party claimed the purported borrowing plan could significantly increase the state’s debt burden and demanded clarity from the government regarding its fiscal intentions.
However, the Osun State Government swiftly dismissed the allegation, describing it as a “baseless rumour” designed to distract citizens from ongoing governance efforts.
In a response released by the governor’s spokesperson, the administration stated that there is no such secret borrowing plan and insisted that all financial decisions of the government are conducted in accordance with due process and public accountability.
“The claim of a hidden ₦300 billion loan is entirely unfounded,” the statement said. “The Adeleke administration remains committed to transparent fiscal management and responsible governance. This allegation is a deliberate attempt to create confusion and divert attention from the progress being made across the state.”
Governor Adeleke’s government further emphasized that any borrowing by the state must follow established legal procedures, including approval from the Osun State House of Assembly and compliance with federal debt regulations overseen by the Debt Management Office.
Political tensions between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in Osun and the opposition APC have remained high since Adeleke assumed office in 2022, with both parties frequently trading accusations over governance, financial management, and policy direction.
Analysts note that debates over state borrowing have become increasingly sensitive in Nigeria as subnational governments face growing fiscal pressures due to declining revenues, rising infrastructure demands, and broader economic challenges.
While the APC continues to demand greater disclosure from the state government, officials in Adeleke’s administration maintain that the allegation lacks evidence and is part of routine political contestation.
As the controversy unfolds, residents and civil society groups have called for transparency from both political actors, urging that public discourse focus on verifiable facts and the long-term economic interests of Osun State.
