Opinion: The FUT Minna Bosso Campus Controversy — A Call for Facts, Transparency, and Peace

By Enock Damidami, Sele Media Africa

The ongoing controversy over the ownership of the Bosso campus of Federal University of Technology Minna between the Niger State Government and the university community has become a matter of serious public concern. As citizens who believe in good governance, transparency, and the peaceful development of our dear state, it is important that this issue is handled with wisdom, responsibility, and respect for the truth. For over four decades, the Bosso campus has served as an important academic centre in Minna and a source of pride for Niger State. The institution has contributed greatly to education, research, human capital development, and the economic growth of the state and the nation at large. However, the recent disagreement over whether the Bosso campus was permanently transferred to the Federal Government of Nigeria or temporarily allocated by the Niger State Government has generated public debate and concern among stakeholders. At this point, what the public needs most is clarity based on verifiable evidence. Questions have been raised regarding whether compensation was paid to the Niger State Government when the university was established in 1983, and whether there was a formal agreement, deed of transfer, or lease arrangement between the parties. As a public analyst and commentator on governance matters, it is important to call for transparency and accountability in resolving this issue. The truth about the matter should be established through proper documentation and historical records. Therefore, individuals who were involved in the transaction at that time—including retired government officials, civil servants, and other stakeholders with direct knowledge of the agreement—are encouraged to come forward with credible information and documentary evidence that can clarify the true position.Such transparency will help prevent unnecessary misunderstanding and ensure that decisions are guided by facts rather than speculation or emotion. Most importantly, this matter should be resolved in a peaceful and constructive manner that promotes cooperation between the Niger State Government and the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Both institutions play vital roles in the development of the state and should continue to work together in the interest of progress. Finally, a respectful call is made to the Farmer Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, as the number one citizen of the state, to handle the matter with maturity, wisdom, and statesmanship in order to avoid unnecessary media embarrassment and to protect the image and integrity of the state. In the interest of peace, justice, and sustainable development, all parties are encouraged to embrace openness and allow the truth—supported by evidence—to guide the final resolution of this matter.
