Ondo Farmers Under Siege: Gunmen Shoot Agriculturist, Kidnap Wife in Akure!

Security agencies in Ondo State, Nigeria, have intensified operations following the shooting of a local farmer and the abduction of his wife by suspected gunmen in the state capital, Akure, law enforcement officials confirmed on Thursday.
The Nigeria Police Force, Ondo State Command, stated that the attack occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday along Oda Road in Isagba community, when unidentified armed assailants stormed the residence of Daniel Adesida, a prominent local tomato farmer.
According to DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police public relations officer, the assailants opened fire as Mr. Adesida resisted. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand, while his wife was forcibly taken by the gunmen.
Police operatives responded promptly to an emergency alert, rescuing the injured farmer and conveying him to the Police Clinic for medical treatment. Security forces secured the area and launched tactical patrols in surrounding communities to track the suspects.
“The command strongly condemns this criminal act and urges residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities,” DSP Jimoh said. He added that intelligence-led operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
This attack highlights a growing pattern of violence against rural farmers in Ondo State. Recent weeks have seen separate incidents in which armed assailants killed farmers, prompting protests from local youths demanding enhanced security measures.
Authorities at both state and federal levels are under increasing pressure from residents and civil society organizations to apprehend the criminals and restore safety in farming communities, where agriculture remains a primary livelihood for thousands.
