Ondo Community Demands Swift Probe Into APC Ward Congress Bloodshed in Idanre!

Reported by sadauna Lydia edeh (Journalist)| Sele Media Africa

Residents of Idanre Local Government Area in Ondo State have formally called on national and state authorities to launch an independent and transparent investigation into violent clashes that erupted during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress, which claimed at least two lives and left several others injured.
The petition, signed by High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, the Ojomo of Idanre Kingdom, was addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Inspector General of Police, and APC party leadership. Titled โ€œA Clarion Call to End the Senseless Killings of Idanre Citizensโ€, the letter condemned the outbreak of violence during the partyโ€™s internal exercise on 18 February 2026.
Chief Akinboni described the deaths as โ€œbrutalโ€ and noted that many others remain under medical care. The community letter called the events an โ€œaffront to the peace, dignity, and unityโ€ of Idanre and asserted that criminal elements were responsible for the chaos.
The petitioners urged the federal and state governments, the Nigeria Police Force, and APC national leadership to establish an unbiased investigative panel with the authority to determine the causes of the violence, identify perpetrators, and prosecute those responsible under Nigerian law.
Community leaders warned that failure to prevent further violence or ensure accountability may compel Idanre residents to seek constitutional legal redress and explore alternative democratic platforms in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 13 suspects linked to the violent incident following a coordinated, intelligence led operation directed by Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal. Police officials have called for calm and full cooperation with ongoing investigations.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa publicly condemned the unrest, denied any direct involvement, and directed security agencies to restore order while ensuring justice for the victims. His administration emphasized that the violence does not reflect official policy and reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace in the state.
As political parties and electoral stakeholders prepare for upcoming primaries, the Idanre communityโ€™s appeal highlights ongoing concerns over intra party violence, political accountability, and the urgent need for strengthened civic protections ahead of Nigeriaโ€™s 2027 elections.
