Obey Copyright Law, NCC Tells Kano Bookshops!
By Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Kano Office, has called on bookshop owners and operators in the state to adhere strictly to copyright laws, stressing that non-compliance fuels piracy and undermines the nation’s creative and educational sectors.
The appeal was made during a recent stakeholder sensitization exercise, where the NCC highlighted the legal and economic consequences of selling pirated books and unlicensed materials.
“Copyright is not just a legal requirement; it’s a tool to protect authors, publishers, and the knowledge economy,” said a representative from the commission.
The NCC emphasized its commitment to strengthening intellectual property rights enforcement in Northern Nigeria, and warned that violators would face legal action and possible seizure of pirated stock.
Bookshop operators were urged to buy from authorized distributors, verify copyright registrations, and support original content creators.
