Nigerian Minister in Fresh Scandal: Businesswoman Accuses Dave Umahi of Sexual Harassment, Intimidation Over Unpaid Campaign Debt!

A Nigerian businesswoman has accused Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, of sexual harassment, intimidation, and refusal to settle an alleged long-standing business debt—claims the minister has firmly denied as investigations continue.
The accuser, identified as Tracy Nicholas Ohiri, alleges that her dispute with the former Ebonyi State governor stems from campaign materials she claims to have supplied years ago. According to her, the unpaid contract—initially valued in the tens of millions of naira—has grown significantly with accumulated interest.
Allegations of Harassment and Debt Dispute
Ohiri told journalists that her business relationship with Umahi dates back to his early political career, when she was allegedly contracted to produce promotional items for campaign activities. She claims she financed the production with personal savings and loans after being encouraged to proceed without upfront payment.
Among her most serious allegations is that during a business trip, the minister allegedly entered her hotel room wearing only a towel and made sexual advances, which she rejected. She further alleged that repeated demands for payment were met with pressure for a personal relationship and, later, intimidation when she refused.
The businesswoman also claimed that her attempts to recover the alleged debt led to threats and eventual arrest after she took her complaints public.
Police Case and Public Confrontation
The controversy escalated after activist Omoyele Sowore confronted the minister at a police facility in Abuja over the woman’s detention and the underlying debt dispute. The case has since drawn public attention, with civil society actors calling for transparency and due process.
Ohiri is reportedly facing legal proceedings linked to allegations of cyberbullying connected to her public accusations.
Umahi Denies Allegations
Umahi has denied the accusations, describing them as inconsistent and lacking credibility. Through his media aides, the minister maintained that law enforcement acted within its legal mandate following a petition submitted by his legal representatives.
He also rejected claims that he used the police to harass the businesswoman, stating that the matter is being handled through proper legal channels.
Broader Implications
The case highlights ongoing concerns in Nigeria about the intersection of business disputes, political influence, and the use of state institutions in civil matters. Legal analysts note that the allegations—ranging from unpaid contractual obligations to harassment—may ultimately depend on documentary evidence and court findings.
As of press time, the matter remains under investigation, with both parties maintaining sharply conflicting accounts.
