Truth. Courage. Accountability.
Our Sacred Trust
Journalism is not merely a profession; it is a public trust. At Sele Media Africa, we understand that every story shapes memory, power, and the moral direction of society. We therefore commit ourselves—before God, our audience, and history—to practice journalism that liberates rather than manipulates, enlightens rather than inflames, and serves truth rather than power (John 8:32).
1. TRUTH ABOVE ALL
We pursue truth with discipline, humility, and courage.
- Facts are sacred; opinions are clearly labeled.
- Accuracy is non-negotiable, even under pressure.
- Speed never overrides verification.
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32)
2. INDEPENDENCE FROM POWER
We maintain strict editorial independence from:
- Political parties and office holders
- Corporate interests and advertisers
- Ethnic, tribal, or sectarian pressures
No donor, sponsor, or authority determines our editorial judgment.
3. FAIRNESS & HUMAN DIGNITY
We report with justice and balance, recognizing the image of God in every person (Genesis 1:27).
- We avoid stereotypes, sensationalism, and dehumanization.
- We give right of reply to those accused or criticized.
- We report conflict without fueling hatred or violence.
4. COURAGE WITHOUT RECKLESSNESS
We are fearless—but not careless.
- We investigate corruption, abuse of power, and injustice.
- We do not incite violence, vigilantism, or mob justice.
- We prioritize the safety of our journalists and sources.
5. ACCOUNTABILITY & CORRECTION
We are accountable to the public we serve.
- Errors are corrected promptly, clearly, and transparently.
- Corrections are not admissions of weakness but evidence of integrity.
- We listen seriously to credible public feedback.
6. RESPONSIBLE USE OF SOURCES
- Anonymous sources are used only when necessary and verified.
- Whistleblowers are protected with the highest ethical and legal care.
- We do not pay for information or manipulate vulnerable sources.
7. CHILD & VULNERABLE PERSONS PROTECTION
We place human safety above headlines.
- No child is identified without compelling public interest and legal justification.
- Survivors of violence are treated with dignity, not exploitation.
- We comply fully with child protection laws in Nigeria, Kenya, and international conventions.
8. HATE SPEECH & HARM PREVENTION
Sele Media Africa does not publish or amplify:
- Hate speech, ethnic incitement, or religious demonization
- Calls to violence or collective punishment
- Content that endangers lives or social cohesion
Free speech is not a license to destroy.
9. CLEAR BOUNDARIES: NEWS, OPINION & ADVERTISING
- News is factual and evidence-based.
- Opinion is clearly labeled and plural.
- Sponsored content is transparently disclosed.
There are no hidden agendas in our reporting.
10. DIGITAL RESPONSIBILITY & FACT-CHECKING
In the age of misinformation:
- We verify before amplifying.
- We correct viral falsehoods with evidence.
- We do not weaponize algorithms against truth.
11. AFRICAN VOICES, GLOBAL STANDARDS
We tell African stories with African depth—
yet uphold global journalistic standards including:
- Accuracy
- Independence
- Humanity
- Accountability
We refuse both inferiority and propaganda.
12. CONSCIENCE BEFORE CAREER
Every journalist at Sele Media Africa reserves the right—and bears the duty—to refuse assignments that violate ethical standards, personal conscience, or human dignity.
OUR OATH
We are not just reporting news; we are archiving the history of a rising continent.
We therefore pledge to practice journalism that history will vindicate,
that citizens can trust,
and that God will not be ashamed to witness.
