Residents of the Akobo community in Ibadan were thrown into shock on Sunday after a man allegedly attempted to conceal the body of a young woman believed to be his girlfriend in the boot of a vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Eyewitness accounts from the quiet residential neighbourhood in Akobo indicate that the suspect was seen struggling to push the woman’s body into the trunk of a car, reportedly a 2007 Toyota Corolla, when he suddenly noticed several residents still outside their homes due to the evening heat.
According to neighbours, the man appeared startled upon realizing he had been spotted. Witnesses claim he immediately abandoned the attempt, dropped the body on the ground, and sped away from the scene.
Community members say the suspect and the victim had earlier been seen entering the residence together earlier in the day, raising suspicions that the incident may have occurred inside the property.
Police officers from the Nigeria Police Force later arrived at the scene following reports from residents. Authorities recovered the body of the victim, identified by locals as Precious, a resident of the Akobo area.
Preliminary observations from the scene reportedly revealed signs of a struggle inside the house. Residents told investigators that the interior appeared ransacked, while a hammer—believed to be a potential weapon—was discovered on the floor.
The suspect has been identified by community sources as Muhammad Quadri, said to be a former student of The Polytechnic Ibadan and a past participant in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Residents also alleged that the pair had been involved in a troubled relationship prior to the incident, though authorities have not confirmed this claim.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had not issued an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide further details as efforts continue to locate the suspect and determine the events leading to the tragedy.
The incident has sparked renewed concern among residents about safety and domestic disputes within residential communities, with many calling for swift justice and a thorough investigation.
