Kebbi Mosque Massacre: Suspected Lakurawa Militants Kill Worshippers in Alleged Reprisal for Failed Military Ambush!

Suspected members of the Lakurawa armed group have attacked a mosque in northwestern Nigeria, killing at least five Muslim worshippers and injuring three others in what authorities describe as a reprisal assault following a failed ambush on a military convoy.
The attack occurred in Dadinkowa community, located in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where gunmen reportedly stormed a mosque during evening prayers and opened fire on congregants. Survivors and local sources said the shooting caused panic as worshippers attempted to flee the building.
Police authorities indicated that the assault was likely retaliation for an earlier confrontation between the militants and troops of the Nigerian Army. The military had previously repelled an ambush targeting the convoy of a General Officer Commanding (GOC) in the region, reportedly killing several attackers and recovering weapons during the operation.
Security officials said the convoy came under heavy gunfire near Mayama Hill as the senior commander travelled to visit frontline troops. Soldiers responded with what authorities described as superior firepower, foiling the ambush and dispersing the attackers.
Investigators believe the mosque attack was carried out shortly afterward in retaliation for the failed operation. Casualty figures vary slightly across reports, with some local accounts indicating that more victims may have died from injuries sustained during the shooting.
The Lakurawa group has been linked to a series of violent attacks in northwestern Nigeria, contributing to a worsening security situation marked by insurgent activity, banditry, and targeted assaults on rural communities. The latest incident underscores growing concerns about civilian vulnerability in conflict-affected areas of the region.
Security forces have reportedly intensified patrols around affected communities, while authorities continue investigations into the attack.
