Kano Hisbah Arrests Teenagers Over Alleged Plan to Host ‘Immoral’ Birthday Party for Pimps During Eid-el-Fitr!

Authorities in Kano State, northern Nigeria, have arrested two teenagers accused of organizing what officials described as an “immoral birthday party” for individuals identified as pimps during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The arrests were carried out by the Kano State Hisbah Board, the Islamic moral enforcement agency tasked with implementing Sharia-based regulations in the state.

According to a statement issued by the board’s Deputy Commandant-General, Mujahideen Aminudeen, the suspects—identified as 19-year-old Umar Yahaya and 18-year-old Musa Al-Hassan—were apprehended after authorities discovered plans circulating on social media inviting people from across the country to attend the party shortly after Eid prayers.

Alleged Plan Circulated on Social Media

Officials said the teenagers had allegedly used various social media platforms to invite individuals associated with the group locally known as Yan Daudu—a term often linked to men acting as intermediaries for prostitution—to a birthday celebration planned to coincide with the Eid festivities.

According to the Hisbah statement, the gathering was expected to feature dancing and other activities considered contrary to Islamic moral codes enforced in the state.

Aminudeen said the planned event raised concerns among authorities because it was scheduled immediately after Eid prayers, a period traditionally devoted to spiritual reflection and celebration among Muslims following the month of Ramadan.

“It is disturbing that individuals of such young age would attempt to organize activities that contradict the moral values associated with the sacred period,” he said.

Focus on Guidance Rather Than Punishment

The Hisbah Board said the teenagers have since expressed remorse over their actions. Rather than pursuing immediate prosecution, the agency indicated it intends to place them under supervision for religious and moral guidance.

Officials explained that the decision reflects a belief that the suspects lack adequate knowledge of Islamic teachings and require mentorship rather than incarceration.

“We discovered they are still young and largely misguided,” Aminudeen noted. “Instead of sending them to prison, we will guide them so they understand their religious obligations and responsibilities.”

Increased Monitoring Ahead of Eid

Authorities also announced plans to intensify surveillance across mosques and public spaces during the final days of Ramadan. The Hisbah Board said it had received complaints that some individuals attending late-night prayers and religious gatherings were engaging in activities unrelated to worship.

The board emphasized that security personnel would monitor such locations to ensure adherence to community standards and prevent actions deemed inappropriate during the religious season.

Sharia Enforcement in Northern Nigeria

The Hisbah Board operates as a moral regulatory agency in Kano, one of several northern Nigerian states where Sharia law functions alongside the country’s secular legal system. The body frequently conducts operations targeting activities considered immoral under Islamic codes, including prostitution, alcohol sales, and mixed-gender social gatherings deemed inappropriate.

While supporters argue the agency plays a vital role in safeguarding community values, critics often debate the broader implications of morality policing and youth rehabilitation policies in the region.
