Kaduna Erupts in Protest: Residents Demand Full Probe of El-Rufai’s Tenure Over Loans, Insecurity, and Dadiyata Disappearance!

Residents of Kaduna on Thursday staged a protest at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai over allegations related to insecurity, public debt, and the unresolved disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata).
The demonstrators, made up of youths and civil society actors, reportedly gathered in parts of Kaduna metropolis before marching to the seat of government, carrying placards and chanting slogans calling for accountability and justice. Protesters urged authorities to audit loans obtained during El-Rufai’s tenure and to provide answers regarding Dadiyata, who disappeared in 2019 under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to multiple reports, the protesters called for transparency in governance and insisted that public officials must be held accountable for their actions while in office. The demonstration remained largely peaceful, with security personnel deployed to monitor the situation and maintain order.
The protest reflects growing public pressure for scrutiny of past administrations in Kaduna State, particularly amid ongoing debates over public debt, governance practices, and security challenges in the region. Some civic groups have also linked their demands to broader concerns about human rights and financial management during the period under review.
The disappearance of Dadiyata remains a particularly sensitive issue. Activists and community members have repeatedly called for renewed investigations into his case, which has become a symbol of unresolved justice concerns in the state.
The demonstration comes amid wider political and legal scrutiny involving the former governor, as well as previous calls by civil society organisations for formal probes into alleged financial mismanagement and rights violations during his administration.
As of press time, there had been no official statement from El-Rufai responding directly to the latest protest. State authorities have also yet to announce any new investigative measures in response to the demonstrators’ demands.
