“Iran Is Sponsoring Islamic Groups In Nigeria To Spread Terror Globally” — Israeli Envoy, Michael Freeman
By Enock Damidami from Sele Media AfricaThe Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has alleged that the Iranian government is sponsoring Islamic movements in Nigeria as part of a wider plan to spread terrorism across the world.Freeman made the claim during an interview on Arise News, where he said Israel is aware of Iranian-backed Islamic groups operating in Nigeria, particularly the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shi’ite movement. 1According to the envoy, the group receives support from Iran and forms part of what he described as Tehran’s broader strategy to expand its ideological and geopolitical influence beyond the Middle East. He alleged that Iran has for decades supported organizations around the world that promote violence against Israel and Western interests.1Freeman also linked the claim to recent protests staged by IMN members in several Nigerian states, including Lagos, Kano, Niger, Sokoto, Gombe, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Yobe. Protesters reportedly waved Iranian flags and condemned the United States and Israel following recent military strikes in Iran The ambassador further warned that Iran’s activities in Africa and other regions pose a global security threat, noting that the country has been accused of backing militant groups in different parts of the world. Western PostHowever, Iran’s embassy in Nigeria has rejected the allegations, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated. arise.tvSources: Vanguard, BusinessDay, TheCable, Arise News.
