The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has called on Nigerian Muslims embarking on the lesser pilgrimage, Umrah, to dedicate prayers for peace, unity, and stability in Nigeria.

The monarch made the appeal while addressing Muslim faithful preparing for the pilgrimage to Mecca, urging them to remember the country in their supplications during the spiritually significant rites.

According to the Emir, Nigeria is in critical need of sustained prayers amid ongoing security and socio-economic challenges. He emphasized that peace and national harmony are essential foundations for sustainable growth, development, and social cohesion.

The traditional ruler noted that Muslims performing Umrah are privileged to pray in some of Islam’s holiest sites, including the Masjid al-Haram, and encouraged them to use the opportunity to seek divine intervention for the country’s stability and prosperity.

“We must continue to pray for Nigeria. Peace and unity are necessary for the nation’s development. Those traveling for Umrah should remember Nigeria in their prayers and ask for God’s guidance for our leaders and citizens,” the Emir said.

The Ilorin Emir further urged pilgrims to conduct themselves in accordance with the teachings of Islam during the pilgrimage, stressing the importance of discipline, humility, and adherence to the spiritual principles that define the sacred journey.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, continues to face multiple challenges ranging from security concerns to economic pressures. Religious and traditional leaders across the country frequently encourage citizens to complement civic efforts with prayers and moral conduct aimed at fostering national stability.

The Emir’s call reflects a broader tradition within Nigeria’s Muslim community where pilgrims undertaking Umrah or the annual Hajj are encouraged to pray for the nation’s peace and well-being.
