Reported By Sele Media Africa| Ihuoma Amarachi
Several women were reportedly stripped and sexually assaulted during a traditional festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, sparking outrage across Nigeria after disturbing videos surfaced online. The incident occurred during the Alue-Do festival on March 19, where youths allegedly chased women in public, tore their clothes and molested them, according to reports and viral footage circulating on social media.
Eyewitness videos showed victims crying for help while groups of men harassed them, with some attackers reportedly claiming that any woman seen outside during the festival risked being raped.
The development triggered nationwide condemnation, with the Nigerian Bar Association describing the incident as a “national disgrace” and a grave violation of human rights. Following the outrage, the Delta State Police Command arrested a community head and several suspects, while additional arrests were later made as investigations intensified. Women’s rights groups and civil society organisations have also demanded immediate prosecution of those involved, insisting that no cultural practice should justify violence against women. Authorities in Delta State have condemned the incident and pledged to ensure justice for the victims as investigations continue.
