ICPC Detains Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai as Corruption Probe Deepens!

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the detention of former Nasir El-Rufai as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct linked to his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
In a statement issued on February 18, 2026, the anti-graft agency disclosed that El-Rufai was being held at its headquarters in Abuja for questioning in connection with ongoing investigations. Authorities did not immediately disclose the full details of the allegations or the duration of his detention.
The detention followed earlier interactions between the former governor and federal investigators, including previous questioning by anti-corruption agencies over alleged financial improprieties during his administration between 2015 and 2023.
While some reports have linked the probe to longstanding allegations of large-scale financial mismanagement during El-Rufai’s time in office, the ICPC has so far maintained that the detention is tied to ongoing investigations without specifying the exact sums involved.
El-Rufai, a prominent political figure and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, governed Kaduna State for two terms and implemented a range of reforms in public administration and urban development. His tenure, however, also drew scrutiny from lawmakers and civil society groups over governance practices and financial management.
The ICPC stated that further updates would be provided in accordance with its investigative procedures, as the case continues to draw national attention and raise broader questions about accountability and transparency in public office.
