“He Has Not Stepped Down!” – Jonathan’s Family Breaks Silence on 2027 Election Rumours

The family of former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming that he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race.

The speculation, which spread rapidly across social media and certain online platforms, alleged that Jonathan had “stepped aside” from any potential political ambition ahead of the next general election.

In a swift reaction, a source close to the Jonathan family told Sele Media Africa that the reports are false, misleading, and politically motivated.

“President Jonathan has not made any public declaration concerning the 2027 elections. Any report suggesting otherwise is pure speculation,” the source stated.

The former President, who has maintained a strong pan-African profile since leaving office, continues to be active in international diplomacy and peace-building through platforms such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the West African Elders Forum. While Jonathan has neither confirmed nor denied interest in contesting again, insiders suggest that any decision about 2027 would come directly from him—not from unofficial media leaks.

The growing speculation comes amid realignments within political blocs and calls for elder statesmen to once again step into national leadership roles.
