A lawmaker in Ogun State has called for the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Nigeria’s agricultural sector, arguing that emerging technologies could significantly boost productivity, improve farmers’ incomes, and strengthen national food security.
Speaking during a policy discussion on agricultural modernization, Adewale Wasiu, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, emphasized that adopting AI-driven tools could transform traditional farming practices and position Nigeria’s agriculture sector for long-term sustainability and global competitiveness.
According to the lawmaker, AI-powered technologies such as predictive analytics, smart irrigation systems, and automated crop monitoring can help farmers optimize yields while reducing production risks associated with climate change, pests, and soil degradation.
