Gero Gyel, Plateau State | Jan 8, 2026 -Tension is high in Gero Gyel, Jos South LGA, after suspected Fulani terrorists launched yet another deadly assault on the peaceful community, leaving one person dead and another critically injured.
In a press statement issued by the Plateau Youth Council (PYC) Gyel District, the organization described the attack—carried out in broad daylight—as “gruesome, wicked and inhumane.” The PYC strongly condemned the continuous targeting of innocent lives and called the act a direct provocation against peace and coexistence in the region.“This brutal act has once again exposed the persistent insecurity threatening peaceful communities in Gyel and its environs,” said Caleb Dung Vwei, the Public Relations Officer of PYC Gyel, speaking on behalf of the district chairman, Tengwong Yohana Thomas. The council is now demanding swift and decisive action:
Security agencies must track down and prosecute the attackers.
– Government at all levels must intensify security presence in Gero Gyel and surrounding areas.- Proactive steps must be taken to prevent further bloodshed.
The PYC also called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security operatives by reporting any suspicious activity.“Our hearts go out to the bereaved family, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. We stand with the people of Gero Gyel in this painful time,” the statement concluded. This attack adds to a growing list of security concerns in Plateau State, where rural communities continue to suffer recurring violence with little lasting intervention.
