El-Rufai Honours EFCC Invitation, Reports to Abuja Office Amid Rising Anti-Corruption Scrutiny!

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, has reported to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja following an official invitation from the anti-graft agency.
Sources familiar with the development confirmed that El-Rufai honoured the request on Tuesday, underscoring what aides described as his willingness to cooperate fully with lawful investigations. While the EFCC has yet to publicly disclose the specific nature of the invitation, the visit is understood to be part of ongoing reviews related to governance and financial activities during his eight-year tenure as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.
The EFCC, Nigeria’s foremost anti-corruption institution, has in recent months intensified its post-tenure accountability drive, inviting several former public office holders for questioning as part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency and deter abuse of public resources.
Neither El-Rufai nor the EFCC has issued a detailed statement at the time of filing this report. However, legal analysts note that responding to an EFCC invitation does not in itself imply guilt, but rather forms part of standard investigative procedure.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s reform-oriented political discourse, has previously stated that he welcomes scrutiny of his time in office and supports institutional accountability.
The development has sparked wide public and political interest, particularly amid renewed national debates on anti-corruption enforcement, governance reforms, and the rule of law in Nigeria’s democratic space.
