The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has blamed Iran for a devastating drone strike on a girls’ elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab, an incident that has triggered global concern and intensified scrutiny over escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump asserted that the attack was carried out by Iran, citing what he described as the country’s historically “inaccurate” military munitions. According to the U.S. president, the strike’s impact on a civilian facility indicated that Iranian weapon systems may have malfunctioned or been misdirected during an operation.

The strike, which occurred on February 28, reportedly destroyed the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ primary school, killing more than 150 people most of them young students according to Iranian authorities. Footage and satellite imagery circulating online show extensive structural damage to the school building and surrounding facilities.

Iran Rejects Allegations, Accuses U.S. of Responsibility
Iranian officials have strongly rejected Trump’s claim, instead accusing the United States and its regional allies of carrying out the attack during ongoing military operations targeting Iranian infrastructure.

Tehran has described the bombing as a grave act against civilians and has called for an independent international investigation into the incident. Iranian authorities say the victims included dozens of schoolgirls aged between seven and twelve, intensifying public outrage within the country.

Adding to the geopolitical tension, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later claimed it launched drone and missile strikes against a U.S. military installation in the United Arab Emirates, which it alleged was used as a launch platform for the attack on Minab.

U.S. Investigation Underway

Despite Trump’s public assertion, U.S. defense officials have taken a more cautious position. The United States Department of Defense has confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the strike and whether American forces were involved.

Officials stressed that the United States does not intentionally target civilian infrastructure, while acknowledging that the inquiry remains ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached.

Meanwhile, the United Nations and international human rights organizations have called for transparency and accountability, warning that attacks on educational institutions could constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Rising Regional Tensions
The Minab tragedy comes amid intensifying hostilities across the Middle East, with military exchanges and retaliatory strikes between Iran, the United States, and allied forces escalating in recent weeks.

Analysts warn that the conflicting narratives surrounding the school bombing highlight the fog of war in modern conflicts, where competing claims, incomplete intelligence, and political messaging often shape global perceptions before definitive evidence emerges.

For many observers, the focus now remains on the humanitarian cost of the conflict and the urgent need for independent verification of the incident.
