Court Bars PENGASSAN from Halting Gas Supply to Dangote Refinery
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
The National Industrial Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order against the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), preventing the union from carrying out its planned industrial action that could disrupt gas supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE.
The ruling was delivered on Monday, following an ex parte application filed by Dangote Refinery. The company sought the court’s intervention to avert a strike that it claims could cripple operations and negatively impact national interest.
Justice Yemi Arowosegbe, presiding over the matter, held that the balance of convenience lies in maintaining the status quo until the substantive suit is determined. He ordered PENGASSAN and its affiliates to suspend any form of protest or disruption pending further hearing.
The court adjourned the matter to October 7, 2025, for continued proceedings.
The legal action stems from reported disputes between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery over alleged unfair labor practices and the treatment of union members.
