ABUJA —The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the recent explosion at a mosque in Borno State, describing the incident as both “unacceptable”and a tragic failure of the Federal Government to secure lives and property in the country’s northeastern region. In a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the party expressed deep concern over the persistent loss of lives due to insurgency and terrorism, asserting that the rising wave of insecurity under the current administration reflects “gross leadership failure.”The opposition party called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to take urgent, transparent, and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
The explosion, which occurred during morning prayers in Gwoza, Borno State, left dozens dead and scores injured according to eyewitness reports and local security sources. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by female suicide bombers, prompting renewed fears about the resurgence of Boko Haram tactics in the region. The PDP urged the Federal Government to overhaul its security architecture, prioritise intelligence gathering, and provide adequate resources to frontline troops. The party also stressed the need for justice for victims and accountability from security agencies. “The continued shedding of innocent blood is a stain on our national conscience,” the PDP stated.
