Adamawa Under Siege: At Least 25 Killed in Suspected Boko Haram Attacks on Madagali and Hong Communities!

Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan, Editor-in-chief | Sele Media Africa

At least 25 people have been killed following coordinated attacks by suspected jihadist militants on rural communities in Adamawa State, underscoring persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s northeast despite ongoing military operations.

The attacks, blamed on militants linked to Boko Haram and its affiliates, targeted villages in Madagali and Hong local government areas, where gunmen reportedly killed residents and razed homes during late-night raids.

Residents said the assailants stormed Kirchinga village in Madagali, killing multiple villagers after arriving in military-style uniforms that initially caused confusion among locals. In nearby Garaha, Hong Local Government Area, additional casualties were reported after dozens of armed fighters on motorcycles attacked the community and a nearby security formation.

Local sources indicated that several houses and public buildings were destroyed in the raids, forcing many residents to flee to safer towns, including Mubi.

Persistent Insurgency in Northeast Nigeria

The affected communities lie near the fringes of the Sambisa forest region, long considered a stronghold for insurgent groups operating across northeastern Nigeria. The area has remained vulnerable to periodic attacks despite sustained counterinsurgency campaigns by Nigerian security forces.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri condemned the killings, describing the attacks as acts of terrorism and pledging that authorities would continue efforts to restore stability and bring perpetrators to justice.

Security analysts note that the latest violence reflects the enduring threat posed by insurgent factions in the region, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of attacks targeting rural and underserved communities.

Humanitarian and Security Concerns

The attacks highlight ongoing humanitarian and security challenges across northeastern Nigeria, where years of insurgency have displaced millions and strained local infrastructure. Renewed violence in Adamawa raises concerns about civilian protection and the resilience of vulnerable border communities.

Authorities have not released a final casualty figure, and security operations in the affected areas are ongoing.
