Several journalists were injured on Friday, February 6, 2026, in a road crash in Bauchi State, Nigeria, while covering the commissioning of projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The accident occurred along the YashiโYelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, shortly after the delegation commissioned a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri.
The delegation comprised government officials and journalists assigned to report on the handover of completed NEDC projects to the Bauchi State Government.
Reports indicate that the vehicle conveying the journalists veered off the road and crashed, resulting in injuries to several reporters and camera crew members. The injured journalists were first taken to Yelwan Duguri General Hospital for immediate medical attention before being transferred to higher medical facilities for further treatment.
Media organisations affected include Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), ARISE Television, and other members of the Correspondentsโ Chapel.
Some of the victims reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries, including head injuries, fractures, and bodily bruises.
Officials of the Bauchi State Government, including the Deputy Governor, visited the injured journalists and directed that they be moved to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for specialised medical care.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with authorities yet to release official findings.
