The Enugu State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen heavy-duty truck, including a Sinotruk reportedly hijacked in Delta State, after it was found abandoned in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The recovery followed intelligence-led operations carried out by police operatives as part of efforts to dismantle interstate vehicle theft syndicates targeting commercial trucks and other high-value vehicles across the South-East region.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives acted on credible intelligence that led them to the location where the stolen truck had been abandoned by suspected criminals. He disclosed that additional stolen trucks, including other heavy-duty vehicles, were also recovered during the operation, while suspects linked to the syndicate are currently under interrogation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Sinotruk was hijacked in Delta State before being transported across state lines and eventually dumped in Awgu. The recovery forms part of a broader crackdown on organised vehicle theft networks operating across multiple states.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised their professionalism and reaffirmed the commandβs commitment to protecting lives and property. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
Security experts say the development highlights sustained efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to curb organised crime, particularly the theft and illegal movement of commercial vehicles, which has posed significant challenges to transport operators and enforcement agencies nationwide.
