Muslims across Kwara State congregated in mosques and open grounds on Sunday to perform the first Eid-al-Fitr prayer following the conclusion of Ramadan, marking the first celebration since the passing of the state’s revered Chief Imam. The solemn yet joyful gathering was characterized by fervent prayers, community solidarity, and calls for unity and security in the state.

The Chief Imam’s absence was felt across the congregations, with community leaders and worshippers reflecting on his decades-long spiritual leadership that guided Kwara Muslims through religious, social, and civic matters. Many described the Imam as a “pillar of faith and moral guidance” whose legacy would continue to shape the community.

In his Eid sermon, the acting religious leader urged the faithful to sustain the virtues of Ramadan, emphasizing compassion, charity, and social responsibility. He also appealed to residents and authorities to maintain peace, stressing that “security and unity are collective responsibilities that underpin the prosperity of our society.”

The event saw thousands of worshippers observing traditional Islamic protocols, including congregational prayers, recitation of Takbirs, and charitable giving to the less privileged. Social distancing measures and safety precautions were subtly observed in light of ongoing health considerations.

Community and political leaders used the occasion to convey messages of solidarity and continuity. The Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq extended greetings to Muslims across the state and encouraged them to translate the spiritual discipline of Ramadan into sustained acts of kindness and civic engagement. Religious organizations reiterated their commitment to peacebuilding and interfaith harmony.

Observers note that this year’s Eid-al-Fitr carries additional emotional significance, being the first without the Chief Imam who had served as a unifying figure for decades. Many attendees expressed resolve to honor his memory by deepening personal faith and contributing positively to community life.

The celebrations also underscored the resilience of the Muslim community in Kwara, highlighting the enduring role of faith in fostering social cohesion, ethical responsibility, and community development. From charitable food distributions to youth outreach programs, the Eid festivities reinforced the importance of mutual support, especially in times of leadership transitions and societal challenges.

As Kwara Muslims conclude the festive prayers and community activities, the call remains clear: sustain the spirit of Ramadan, uphold unity, and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens. The Chief Imam’s legacy serves as a reminder that spiritual guidance, moral integrity, and communal harmony are pillars on which a thriving society rests.
